From 1 January 2027 a new version of the World Anti-Doping Code (WADC) takes effect. The new rules form the basis for the national anti-doping regulations and bring several changes that are relevant for athletes. The Nationale Anti-Doping Agentur Deutschland (NADA) and Athleten Deutschland will therefore hold two joint webinars to explain the main changes and answer central questions. The NADA board members Dr. Lars Mortsiefer and Dr. Eva Bunthoff lead the calls. Among the topics are a stronger consideration of athletes' rights, the reduction of possible conflicts of interest in the anti-doping system, a stronger responsibility of the entourage and better protection of young athletes. NADA-specific changes to test pools and prevention measures are also covered. The date given for the webinars is 8 October 2026, and information on registration is provided by the organisers.
The half marathon at the Generali Köln-Marathon was the fastest race the city has hosted. Richard Ringer of LC Rehlingen won in 61:50, breaking a course record that had stood for 16 years. The previous best was 63:00, set in 2010 by Kenyan Leonard Kipkoech Langat. Esther Pfeiffer of Düsseldorf Athletics also went under the course record. Jona Bodirsky of TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen finished second in 62:52, also below the old mark. Yohan Zaradzki of Belgium came third in 63:17. Ringer, the 2022 European marathon champion, said he had planned to stay only just under the record because he did not want to overreach three weeks before the Frankfurt Marathon. Seven weeks earlier he had placed tenth at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham and won team silver alongside European champion Amanal Petros and Samuel Fitwi.
In a laboratory study, 19 participants ran to exhaustion on a treadmill in three counterbalanced conditions: no acoustic stimuli, a metronome matching their cadence, and synchronous motivational music. Time to exhaustion was significantly longer with acoustic stimuli than without, but did not differ between the metronome and music conditions. Music slightly lowered perceived exertion and near-maximal heart rates. Source: PLOS ONE
